Maria & Anthony

This enchanting destination wedding in Kastellorizo was a long-standing dream for Maria and Anthony, who traveled all the way from Australia to tie the knot in one of the most picturesque locations to have a wedding in Greece. The dreamy island’s small size and serene atmosphere provided an intimate and secluded setting perfect for their wedding. But why Kastellorizo? There is such a sweet story behind this. With a Greek-Scottish heritage, Antony’s mother is from Kastellorizo and is familiar with how delicate every aspect of this island is. Our lovely Greek-Australian couple needed to hear nothing more, and so the choice was made! Nothing could be more iconic than a traditional Kastellorizo wedding with all the delightful customs and traditions. One of our favorites? The must-have post-wedding capture in front of the island’s landmark, The Sandrapia Civil School, a 1903 building located next to the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen and the most important educational institution of the island. Needless to say, everything was so delightful!

Inspired by the island’s rich history and authentic personality, and actively incorporating natural elements in the design, like the ever-classy fig leaves, an Australian artist used watercolors to create the beautiful wedding stationery that set the mood for the wedding from the early stages. Something we always advise our couples is that nothing is as charming as a tasteful stationery suite to get guests in the mood!

As tradition dictates in such circumstances and following Greek wedding customs, it is considered bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding.

Consequently, Maria and Anthony had their wedding preparations in separate houses. What added a particularly touching element to the day was that Anthony got ready in his ancestral house.

Kastellorizo boasts a rich history, and tying the knot in such a historically significant place adds a layer of charm and depth to the wedding. The couple and their guests can immerse themselves in the island’s unique cultural heritage. Following the Kastellorizo tradition, both the bride and groom embraced the enchanting touch of instrumental music played by local folk musicians during their marriage ceremony.

Known as ‘The instruments’ in Greece, these music processions accompanied them as they walked to the church, creating a memorable ten-minute journey surrounded by friends and family.

We wanted to infuse the entire setting with a breath of freshness, we meticulously selected flower arrangements that embodied a perfect balance of minimalism and sweetness. Each bloom was handpicked, as if freshly gathered from a lush garden, adding a touch of natural elegance to every corner. These thoughtfully chosen floral accents not only graced the venue with their delicate beauty but also brought forth a sense of simplicity and purity, creating an atmosphere that felt as if nature itself had artfully adorned the celebration.

As the bride gracefully descended the steps of the church to meet her groom, a palpable electric charge filled the air, transforming the atmosphere into a symphony of love.

The anticipation of seeing each other for the first time on this momentous day created an enchanting energy—a vibrant blend of excitement and sweetness that radiated from the couple. The tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding ceremony added a layer of enthusiasm to the encounter, making the moment they finally locked eyes an unforgettable moment.

We love infusing the fundamental element of a wedding with Mediterranean touches that add freshness.

The wedding took place in the morning (there’s a special place in our hearts for morning weddings), and the celebratory festivities were scheduled to commence during the afternoon aperitivo hour.

This provided a delightful atmosphere of celebration while maintaining a sense of calmness. Our darling bride, Maria, was a vision in all three of her wedding looks, each one perfectly suited for different moments throughout the day!

The island’s breathtaking landscapes, featuring vibrant blue waters, charming architecture, and picturesque harbors, provide a stunning backdrop for wedding ceremonies and photographs. Every moment becomes a work of art in this idyllic setting, especially the wedding reception we created, which took place in a picturesque alley surrounded by neoclassical buildings, creating a truly vision-worthy scene! To infuse warmth and an intimate ambiance into the setting, we adorned the venue with dozens of candles. Their soft glow and ambient light created the most impressive setting, casting a spell of enchantment over the surroundings.

A destination wedding in Kastellorizo allows each couple to seamlessly incorporate Greek traditions and customs into their celebration.

From savoring local cuisine to dancing to traditional tunes, the wedding becomes a cultural experience for everyone involved. Seeking an authentic Greek touch in every detail, Maria and Anthony desired a cake infused with Greek flavors, opting for the quintessential combination of honey, yogurt, and thyme.

What proved truly impressive at this Greek destination wedding in Kastellorizo (giving us chills every time we recall it) was the surprise live opera performance from a friend of the couple, who serenaded them with a famous opera verse. The night continued with the captivating sounds of a live band playing beloved tunes, keeping guests on the dance floor. The festivities reached their peak with a DJ set that had everyone dancing until the early morning hours. For her third look, Maria opted for an uber party-appropriate dress adorned with sequins, crowning the night in glamorous splendor!

From the morning vows to the evening revelry, every moment of this Greek destination wedding in Kastellorizo echoed the rich history and captivating beauty of this Greek gem.

The union of Greek traditions, the embrace of local flavors, and the surprise melodies that filled the air all wove together to create a tapestry of memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of the couple and their cherished guests. As the stars glittered above, and the echoes of laughter and music lingered, Kastellorizo whispered its blessings to a love story that now resides within its storied shores. Cheers to Maria and Anthony, and to the timeless magic of weddings in Kastellorizo!

Being There

Georgia, Magda and their team planned my wedding in Kastellorizo. I would strongly recommend choosing Eventions as your wedding planner. My husband and I were absolutely blown away by the event they put together for our 200+ international guests and their high level of attention to detail. Magda and Georgia are down to earth and very easy to work with. They captured our personality and style perfectly and we are so happy that the day was a true reflection of both of us. We wanted a wedding that felt natural and organic but elegant, traditional but with a party vibe and understated but with a wow factor. They nailed it. Months have passed and our guests are still telling us it was the best wedding they've ever attended. They did an amazing job despite the logistical challenges presented by having a wedding on a small and very remote island. The day ran seamlessly and all vendors they recommended were excellent and reliable. Thank you Magda, Georgia, Mara and the team for your efforts! We are still in awe of what you put together for us!
