Ria & George

George and Ria’s wedding in Nafplio wasn’t only about grand gestures or perfect backdrops. It was about the way the light hit the olive trees in the late afternoon, the sound of the breeze moving through the leaves, and the smell of wild herbs in the air. It was about the kind of moments that feel small but stay with you forever.

They chose Nafplio, a place that feels like it exists outside of time. Cobblestone streets, old stone houses, and the kind of quiet beauty that doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. It’s a town that holds its history lightly, and that’s what drew them to it. They wanted a wedding that felt like it belonged to the land, not the other way around.

For a truly unique experience, and a ceremony overlooking the stunning landscapes of Nafplio, Ria and George chose the Opora Country Living hotel for their wedding venue. Opora Country Living is tucked into the countryside, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It is not polished or overly designed, it is simple, earthy, and real. The kind of place where you can hear the cicadas in the afternoon and feel the coolness of the stone under your feet.

Ria got ready in a room filled with soft light. Her dress was elegant but understated, the kind of thing that wouldn’t feel out of place in a field or at a dinner table. Her bouquet was a mix of wildflowers and herbs, yellow magnolias, chamomile, and something that smelled like the countryside after rain. It wasn’t fussy or overly arranged; it looked like she’d just picked it on her way to the ceremony.

George spent the morning with his friends, swimming in the pool under the olive trees. There was no schedule, no rush, just laughter and the kind of easy silence that comes with old friendships. Later, they dressed in a sunlit room, helping each other with ties and cufflinks, the kind of small, ordinary moments that somehow feel important.

The ceremony was held outside, under an arch made from an olive tree. It was decorated with fabric that moved in the wind and a few garlands of olive branches. The chairs were simple, the aisle was just a path through the grass, and there was a rustic refreshments table that held jars of cucumber water and a few sprigs of rosemary to quench the thirst of the summer afternoon. It felt like the kind of place where you could stop and take a deep breath.

When Ria walked down the aisle, it was quiet, almost soft. George stood under the arch, smiling in a way that made it clear this was the only place he wanted to be. They said their vows under the trees, their words simple and direct, the kind of promises that don’t need embellishment. Afterwards, they walked back together, and their guests threw rice mixed with olive leaves. It was a confetti that was earthy, a little messy, and exactly right.

George and Ria’s wedding in Nafplio wasn’t about trends or perfection. It was about the kind of beauty that comes from letting things be as they are. The olive trees, the wildflowers, the way the light changed as the day went on, it all felt like it was part of the story, not just the setting. It was a wedding that felt lived-in, like it belonged to the people who were there. It wasn’t trying to be anything other than what it was: a quiet, honest celebration of two people and the place they chose to say “I do.”

In the scenic backdrop of rolling hills and vineyards, the reception of this wedding in Nafplio was set up in the gardens, under strings of lights that looked rustic and sweet. The tables were long and wooden, covered in organic linen. The centrepieces were small terracotta vases with wildflowers, candles in glass jars, and a few sprigs of greenery. It wasn’t overly styled; it felt like someone had just walked through the fields and brought back whatever looked beautiful.

For this wedding in Nafplio, we used long wooden tables set on gravel, dressed in soft grey linens that brushed the ground. White chairs stood simply around them. The colours were soft and neutral, whites, beiges, and greens, with pops of yellow from wildflowers in terracotta vases. Greenery spilt loosely, candles flickered in glass jars, and cloth napkins added a subtle touch of colour. The vibe wasn’t fussy or overdone, just thoughtful, quiet, and in harmony with the landscape. We wanted guests to feel like they could sit for hours, talking and laughing as the light faded.

The couple cut a three-tiered cake from Flour of Youth,a vintage design with soft pink swirls, delicate piping, and bright red cherries. It had a quiet charm, like something from another time. The cake fit perfectly with the day: simple, nostalgic, and full of warmth.

As the sun set, the lights came on, and the music started. The live, traditional Greek music that made you want to move. People danced, laughed, and clinked glasses, but the best moments were the quiet ones: a couple stealing a kiss under the trees, an old friend telling a story, and the way the light caught Ria’s smile as she looked at George. It was the perfect summer destination wedding in Nafplio!
